Empiricism bookmarks

Empiricism

A personal design project about work and life. Once every year or two, I design a series of bookmarks dedicated to uncertainty and cognition. Something from a work subject that I encounter daily, that impresses me, that I ponder in my spare time. To fix in time reflections and ideas, like a page of a diary or a work notebook. To create a frame of reference for subsequent reflections from experiences and concepts. The printed project is created once and can't be copied because the digital genre is fleeting and unstable, while the tactile and tangible goes through time.

Empiricism is knowledge based on practical activity, gained through experience. The scientific method as a way of knowing the world. Technological progress has been made possible by science and the evidence-based approach to interpreting reality.

The bookmarks display a fragment of a xenolith thin section, approximately 6×12 mm, at a scale of 1:1. The macro image of the stone, mined from a depth of 140 meters, was taken using polarization and cross-polarization.

This artistic interpretation of a geological study reveals the beauty of the science and structure of our reality. And through this beauty, the observer goes back to the scientific method as the foundation of modern civilization.

The bookmarks are printed in limited editions by the letterpress method.
